Why I am a Champion for this Cause
I attended the New York Youth Institute in September of 2012, and it was a gateway experience that has in many ways changed my life. This month, I am in Mississippi taking part in a summer fellowship through the USDA where I am doing agricultural research. This opportunity was made available through my participation with the NYYI nearly two years ago. After a positive review of a research paper on Mali that I presented there, I was able to attend the Global Youth Institute at the World Food Prize in Des Moines, Iowa. At each of these events, I met and personally interacted with leaders in the fields of agriculture and food security. They have encouraged and inspired me to do my best in every area of my life and education while retaining a global perspective on food security.
I am passionate about biological science, and the combination of agriculture and the environment is likely going to be some part of my career path. This experience, all starting with the NYYI, has sparked unequaled professional opportunities for me. For other students in the future, this youth institute is a wonderful opportunity that should not be missed. As a society, we need to equip young people with skills, abilities and opportunities that suit their interests in order to develop the next generation of leaders. You are a necessary part of this process, and your donation to the next NYYI will be vital to providing science-based opportunities to next year’s students. Please help equip them!
